May delivers third speech on Brexit

Posted by Ilham Malik on September 28, 2017

On 22nd September 2017, Prime Minister Theresa May delivered her third speech on Brexit while visiting Florence, Italy. In her speech, the Prime Minister detailed the UK government’s expectations on the future relationship it will have with Europe post Brexit.

The key points highlighted include:

  • Britain wants a transition period lasting up to two years following the UK’s exit from the European Union in March 2019. The Prime Minister confirmed that market access to the EU will continue on its current terms during the transitional period with the only exception being that all new EU arrivals will be registered.
  • Britain will honour its (financial) commitments during the period of their membership
  • Legal protections for EU citizens living in the UK will be fully incorporated into UK law

We will get back to you with further updates on the Brexit negotiations.
