This category is for Applicants who wish to visit the UK to undertake general or specified business activity.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
A Visit (Standard) Business visa Applicant needs to demonstrate a genuine intention to visit. This means the Applicant:

must have sufficient funds to cover all reasonable costs in relation to their visit without working or accessing public funds. This includes the cost of the return or onward journey, any costs relating to dependants, and the cost of planned activities such as private medical treatment.
PERMITTED ACTIVITIES
Visit (Standard) Business visa holders may undertake a number of business activities including General and Specified Business, Creative, Sporting, Legal, and Religious activities.

General Business activity:

Applicants may attend meetings, conferences, seminars, interviews; give a one-off or short series of talks and speeches provided these are not organised as commercial events and will not make a profit for the organiser; negotiate and sign deals and contracts; attend trade fairs, for promotional work only, provided the visitor is not directly selling;carry out site visits and inspections; gather information for their employment overseas;be briefed on the requirements of a UK based customer, provided any work for the customer is done outside of the UK; advise and consult;trouble-shoot;share skills and knowledge; on a specific internal project with UK employees of the same corporate group, provided no work is carried out directly with clients.

Specific Business activity:

Prospective Entrepreneurs
Prospective entrepreneurs who have support from registered and FSA regulated venture capitalist firms, listed seeding funds or UK Government Department may come to the UK for discussions to secure funding from one of the above sources which they intend to use to join, set up or take over a business in the UK.

Manufacturers and suppliers of goods to the UK
An employee of a foreign manufacturer or supplier may install, dismantle, repair, service or advise on equipment, computer software or hardware where it has a contract of purchase or supply or lease with a UK company or organisation.

Clients of UK export companies
A client of a UK export company may be seconded to the UK Company in order to oversee the requirements for goods and services that are being provided under contract by the UK company or its subsidiary company, provided the two companies are not part of the same group. Employees may exceptionally make multiple visits to cover the duration of the contract.

 

Overseas roles requiring specific activities in the UK
Applicants employed outside the UK may visit the UK to take part in a number of activities in relation to their employment overseas such as bodyguard, interpreting, journalism, film production and other services.

 

Creative

Applicants who are Artist, entertainers or musicians may give performances, participate in auditions, competitions, take part in personal or promotional activities, participate in cultural or specified festivals and be accompanied by technical staff.

 

Sport

Sportspersons may take part in individual or team tournaments; take part in personal or promotional activities, participate in specified trials or periods of training and be accompanied by technical staff.

Legal

Overseas lawyers may advise a UK based client(s) on specific international litigation and/or

an international transaction and expert or other summoned witness may visit the UK to give evidence in a UK court.

Religious

Religious workers may visit the UK to preach or do pastoral work.

 

Visit (Standard) Business visa holders may also

undertake tourism and leisure
volunteer for a UK Registered charity
study (providing this is incidental lasts no more than 30 days)
PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES
Visit (Standard) Business Applicants are not permitted to

undertake employment or do work which amounts to filling a role or providing short-term cover for a role within a UK based organisation.
receive payment from a UK source for any activities undertaken in the UK except in limited circumstances
undertake more than 30 days’ non-incidental study in the UK.
The Applicant must not intend to access medical treatment other than private medical treatment or to donate an organ
FUNDS
Visit (Standard) Business Applicants and any dependants must demonstrate sufficient funds to cover the all costs associated with the visit either personally or via third parties, without recourse to public funds.

DURATION OF STAY

A Visit (Standard) Business visa allows an Applicant to stay in the UK for up to 6 months during its validity.
