An eVisa is an online record of your immigration status. Physical documents like biometric resident permits (BRPs) and vignette visa stickers have been replaced by an eVisa.

To view your immigration status, you would need to set up a UKVI account through GOV.UK create a UKVI account page. You will need the following information:

  • details of your identity document such as your passport, national identity card or BRP
  • date of birth
  • mobile number or email address

You can link your passport or travel documents to your eVisa, so when you travel, the transport service providers and border force will be able to check your immigration status automatically.

  • This means it is important to check your current passports, travel documents, your contact details and that your eVisa is up to date in your UKVI account.
  • If you have more than one travel document or passport you should update your UKVI account with all your eligible passports and travel documents.
  • When booking travel make sure the personal details that you provide to your travel service provider match those in the passport or travel document which is linked to your eVisa. This must be a passport or travel document that you intend to use for travel.

Share Code

To share your immigration status, visit the Get a share code eVisa page.

It is important to choose the right reason for obtaining a share code. The options are:

  1. To prove your right to work
  2. To prove your right to rent
  3. To prove your immigration status for anything else (for example: studying, council housing, or to get a driving licence)

There are no limits on how many times you can request a share code, but for privacy and security, the share code will expire after 90 days.

How to update or recover your UKVI account login details:

After signing in to your UKVI account you can update your new details such as phone number and email.

You will need access to:

  • Your Linked identity document (passport/BRP/national identity card number)
  • Your date of birth
  • Login email or phone number

You can also request to recover your UKVI account by visiting the eVisa Problems signing in to your account page.

You will need:

  • Linked identity document
  • Date of birth
  • New email address
  • new telephone number
  • Photo of your ID

Updating your account details is usually quick, but it could take longer, for example, if your name has changed you will need to add documents to support the change, and this may take longer.

If you do not have a valid eVisa or your travel document is not linked to your eVisa you may experience delays in travelling.
