In January 2025, the Home Office announced a plan to increase several application fees….again.

The Home Office have proposed the following fee increases:

British Citizenship

The cost for adults applying to naturalise as a British citizen is proposed to increase from £1,500 to £1,605 per applicant.

This fee is separate from the fee for the citizenship ceremony, which is currently an additional £130.

In addition, the following nationality fees are set to increase:

  • Renunciation of British citizenship: From £450 to £482.
  • Amendments to citizenship certificates: From £400 to £428.
  • Review of decisions: From £450 to £482.
  • Right of abode documentation: From £550 to £589.

Work Sponsorship

The following fees for those under any work sponsorship route such as skilled workers, Global Business Mobility routes and scale-up workers are set to increase as follows:

  • Certificiate of Sponsorship: From £239 to £525
  • Fee for temporary workers: From £25 to £55

Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)

ETAs are for eligible visitors to the UK who do not currently need a visit visa for short stays to the UK, who must now apply for a visa waiver.

  • Maximum fee threshold to increase from £15 to £16

There is currently no set date as to when these new fees are likely to be implemented. The proposed fees must first be agreed by the UK Parliament.

As the exact time frame is unknown, it is advisable that if you are thinking of making any applications related to the above that you begin the process as soon as possible.
