The UK immigration system is becoming increasingly digital. When you receive a decision on your application, you will also be told whether you can use the “View and Prove Service.” This service allows you (and your landlords and employers) to check your immigration status online quickly and easily.

Who can use the View and Prove Service?

In the future, everyone will be able to register for a UKVI account and access this service. In the meantime, check your decision letter to see if you are able to. You can usually use the “View and Prove Service” if:

  • You are an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen, and you applied to the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS)
  • You applied for a UK visa using the ID Check app
  • You are not an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen, but you have a UKVI account

How can I access the View and Prove Service?

Simply click here and follow the instructions. You will need to provide basic information, such as your contact details and either your passport number, national ID card number, or BRC/BRP card number.

You can then click “get a share code” to give to your employer or landlord. They can check that the share code is valid by clicking the appropriate link below:

Please note, your employer or landlord will need your date of birth. For security reasons, each share code is only valid for 90 days. After that, you will need to log in again to get a new share code.

How do I prove my immigration status when I’m crossing the UK border?

You will need to show documentation when entering the UK. The type of documentation depends on your nationality and immigration status.

If you’re a citizen of the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein, you will need to bring a passport or national identity card. Please note that you can only use a national identity card if you:

  • Have settled or pre-settled status under the EUSS
  • Have an EUSS family permit
  • Have a Frontier Worker permit
  • Are an S2 Healthcare Visitor
  • Are a Swiss national and have a “Service Provider from Switzerland” visa

Please see this page for full information, including if you are planning to apply for the EUSS or currently waiting for a decision on your EUSS application.

If you’re from outside the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, you need to bring your passport. You may also need a visa, depending on which country you’re from. You can check if you need a visa here. Descartes Solicitors is happy to assist you with applying for a visa. Call us today at 020 8995 3556.
