This category is for Applicants who wish to enter the UK to donate an organ.

Non-European nationals who wish to enter the UK as visitors must have permission to do so unless they are the national of a listed country to which an exemption applies.

When the country exemption applies, an Applicant need only apply for leave to the Immigration Officer at the UK port of entry unless:

(a) visiting the UK to marry or to form a civil partnership (or give notice of this); or

(b) seeking to visit the UK for more than 6 months.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

A Visit (Standard) Visa to Donate an Organ Applicants can apply for a 6 or 11 month visa and need to demonstrate a genuine intention to visit. This means the Applicant:

  • will leave the UK at the end of their visit; and
  • will not live in the UK for extended periods through frequent or successive visits, or make the UK their main home; and
  • is genuinely seeking entry for a purpose that is permitted by the visitor routes

will not undertake any prohibited activities set out in the Visitor routes.

  • must have sufficient funds to cover all reasonable costs in relation to their visit without working or accessing public funds. This includes the cost of the return or onward journey, any costs relating to dependants, and the cost of planned activities such as private medical treatment.

Additionally, Visit (Standard) Visa to Donate an Organ Applicants must also:

  • demonstratethat they genuinely intend to donate an organ, or have been assessed as a potential organ donor, to an identified recipient in the UK with whom they have a genetic or close personal relationship.
  • provide written confirmation of medical tests to show that they are a donor match to the identified recipient, or that they are undergoing further tests to be assessed as a potential donor to the identified recipient.
  • provide a letter, dated no more than three months prior to the Applicant’s intended date of arrival in the UK from either:

(a) the lead nurse or coordinator of the UK’s NHS Trust’s Living Donor kidney Transplant team; or

(b)a UK registered medical practitioner who holds an NHS consultant post or who appears in the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council; which confirms that the visitor meets specified requirements of the Visa Rules and confirms when and where the planned organ transplant or medical tests will take place.

If the Applicant is applying for an 11 month visa they must also:

(a) provide evidence from their medical practitioner in the UK that the proposed treatment is likely to exceed 6 months but not more than 11 months; and

(b) provide a valid medical certificate issued by a medical practitioner confirming that they have undergone screening for active pulmonary tuberculosis, where specified

PERMITTED ACTIVITIES

Visit (Standard) Visa to Donate an Organ holders are permitted to:

  • undertake tourism and leisure
  • volunteer for a UK Registered charity
  • study (providing this is incidental lasts no more than 30 days)
  • prospective entrepreneurial activities  in specified circumstances

PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES

Visit (Standard) Visa to Donate an Organ holders are not permitted to:

  • undertake employment or do work which amounts to filling a role or providing short-term cover for a role within a UK based organisation.
  • receive payment from a UK source for any activities undertaken in the UK except in limited circumstances
  • undertake more than 30 days’ non-incidental study in the UK.
  • The Applicant must not intend to access medical treatment other than private medical treatment or to donate an organ

FUNDS

Visit (Standard) Visa to Donate an Organ Applicants and any dependants must demonstrate sufficient funds to cover the all costs associated with the visit either personally or via third parties, without recourse to public funds.

DURATION OF STAY

A Visit (Standard) visa to donate an organ allows an Applicant to stay in the UK for up to 6 months during its validity. Applicants may, however, apply for a period of 11 months.
